The University of Colorado's Beta chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta is currently welcoming new members.
Alpha Kappa Delta is an honors organization which promotes the scientific study of society and strives to raise awareness of social considerations.
If you are interested in sociology as a discipline or simply cultivating your views of the social world, consider applying for membership in Alpha Kappa Delta!
To Become a member, students need to meet the following criteria:
1. Must be an officially declared sociology major or demonstrate a serious
interest in sociology within an official program of the host institution.
2. Must be at least a junior (third year) by standards of the host institution.
3. Must have accumulated the equivalent of an overall GPA of 3.3 (by a four
point scale where: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0)
4. Must have maintained the equivalent of a 3.3 GPA in sociology courses taken
at the host institution prior to initiation.
5. Must have completed at least four regular courses in sociology prior to
initiation (exclusive of extension or courses graded pass/fail).
Membership cost is $40 to AKD for a lifetime membership, and $15 to the Beta Chapter to help
fund activities. With membership comes a one-year subscription to the journal Sociological Inquiry.
There are many benefits to joining AKD. Not only are you able to develop social networks
within the University of Colorado, but membership in AKD provides opportunities to interact with some of the
nation's top sociologists. AKD members are able to submit research papers in competitions, participate in sessions
at regional and national conferences and recive travel fund assistance. All of this and fun times too!
