An announcement from the Muslim Students’ Association:

The Muslim Students' Association is pleased and honored to invite you to the very first Islamic Awareness week at the University of Colorado at Boulder.  We hope you will join us in exploring the nature of Islam.  In a world where Islam is on the main stage and has been thrown again and again into political and international dialogue, it is important to challenge ourselves to think critically about the role religion plays in the way we relate to each other. Below is a link to our website where you can find a short description of our speakers and their lecture topics.  We look forward to seeing you there. Link to Islamic Awareness Week schedule:

Internationally-renowned philosopher Thomas Pogge will give a talk entitled "Making War on Terrorists, Reflections on Harming the Innocent".  Pogge writes that his lecture will cover the following: "Our government is conducting a war against terrorism. Many citizens strongly support this war. They view terrorism as especially heinous and judge its prevention to have an importance that is greatly disproportional to the harm it inflicts. These common views can be anchored in a broader conception of political morality which can guide our responses to political violence." Where: Glenn Miller Ballroom, University Memorial Center (UMC), CU, Boulder.  When: February 9, 2006 at 6:00 pm (reception at 5:30).

Due to operator error (i.e., my mistake), I had you read the wrong article by Kenneth Waltz for our last meeting (#4, Realism: The Anarchic International System).  I have posted the corrected article directly to the webpage.  It is available at http://sobek.colorado.edu/~jupille/200601/PSCI2223/waltz-anarchic-structure.pdf.  You will be responsible for having read the correct article, so please be sure to do so ASAP, and certainly in advance of the first midterm.
