20060627

For tomorrow, please read the collection of Economist readings on the Doha round that I have posted online.

20060621

Here’s a breakdown of what to read from Reid, and how:

  • For tomorrow (Thurs, 6/22): read the prologue carefully, and then read chs 1 and 3-6 "strategically".  We have already read ch.2.  As I noted in class, reading strategically means reading for big ideas, and then focusing on key claims as found in headings, intro and concluding sections, the first and last sentences of paragraphs, etc.  I want you to get a general sense of what Reid is claiming, in this case about Europe's economic and social policy successes.
  • For Friday (6/23): read chs. 7-9 "strategically".

20060613

I have posted a midterm preview.

20060613

I have posted instructions for the response essay assignment.

20060613

I removed the Lankowski reading from meeting #17 and added a short article from the Financial Times by George Parker and Tobias Buck.  That reading has been placed on e-reserve along with the rest.

20060613

I have corrected the syllabus to reflect that participation constitutes forty percent of your final grade, as indicated numerically, rather than thirty percent, as had been erroneously indicated in the text.

20060607

I have updated the syllabus to include the reading for this coming Friday, June 9th.  It should soon be available at e-reserves, author name Soetendorp in the set of PSCI 4213 readings.

20060605

I have posted a page for the course overheads.

20060605

I have updated the course syllabus to reflect the variable due dates for the response essay, depending on the book to which you’ll be responding.  Responses to Kagan will be due on June 20th; responses to Reid will be due on June 22nd; responses to Gordon & Shapiro will be due on June 29th.  Remember that you only have to submit one response essay.  They are due at the beginning of the relevant class meeting.
