One of the world’s preeminent experts on the Middle East, Mitchell Bard, tackles the question most people are afraid to contemplate: Will Israel survive? Aside from terrorist threats, Hezbollah, Iran, and the Palestinian conflict, Israel must contend with tensions between religious and secular Jews, the demographic challenges of a quickly growing Arab population, internal political divisions, and disputes over the water sources that are critical to its survival. Bard explores how Israel can triumph over current threats.

Dr. Mitchell G. Bard is the Executive Director of the nonprofit American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise (AICE) and one of the leading authorities on U.S.-Middle East policy. He has written and edited 18 books, including The Complete History of the Holocaust and Myths and Facts: A Guide to the Arab-Israeli Conflict. He lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Co-sponsored by Allied Jewish Federation, the Anti-Defamation League, CU Hillel, Jewish Studies at CU, Stand By Israel, ISIME, B’Yahad: The Israel Center at the Boulder JCC.

He will talk briefly about "Intelligence and Foreign Policy: Abilities, Liabilities, and Ethics," followed by an extensive Q&A session. His wife, Lisa Campbell Bailey, will hopefully join the session.

David Bailey worked for the Central Intelligence Agency from 1990-1996, during which time he worked in the Pentagon during the 1991 Gulf War, and in the White House from 1992-1994 under Presidents Bush Sr. and Clinton. He has also worked for the U.S. Department of State, and interned for the Agency for International Development and the Center for Strategic and International Studies as an undergrad. Lisa (a CU PSCI graduate!) worked for the CIA primarily as a Middle East and Asia leadership analyst, and can bring great perspective to issues of "women in government."
