Life is a shrill-tuned carousel
Circling, circling, circling eternal.
It starts with a slap and a cry
And becomes the apple of someone's eye.
At puberty things do change for
A boy or girl, now in their teens.
Mother or fatherhood is next on the scene
And age settles in to ripen and rest.
As the circling slows and comes to an end
It's a time in life when one needs a friend.
